RIP former BURNING SHADOWS vocalist Tom Davy (1990-2023)

We recently learned of the passing of former BURNING SHADOWS vocalist Tom Davy. From 2010 to 2022, Tom’s immense talents brought our visions to reality. His impact on the band’s growth, reach, and longevity cannot be understated. During his time with the band, the vast majority of vocal arrangements were his domain. His lyrical skills are forever enshrined in the track he penned, “Truth in Legend,” the title track of our 2017 album. We will miss you, brother.

To celebrate Tom’s memory, we will be releasing some material from our archives. Steel Diplomacy out 9/9/2022!

We are proud to announce Steel Diplomacy, our live BD+DVD+2CD set chronicling the 2019 Steel Diplomacy European tour! Included are complete sets from Riddle of Steel Fest in Marburg, Germany and Into Battle Fest in Athens, Greece. Digital audio-only versions are also available.

“It has been a dream for us to play Europe when we started the band, and Rafchild Records made it possible,” reminisced guitarist Tim Regan, “and we are forever grateful. We were eventually able to organize all the footage and photos and recordings from the tour into a coherent release. This type of thing we would usually just keep for our friends and family but we decided to make it available to everyone. We are very pleased with how everything went despite all the obstacles we faced. And of course, we can’t wait to do it again!”

Bonus BD/DVD tracks include audio commentary of the sets, plus over 70 minutes of behind the scenes videos, photos, and bonus songs from additional shows. Riddle of Steel audio was mixed from a multitrack board recording; everything else was recorded and assembled from the band’s personal archives. Both concerts were filmed with several GoPro cameras.

The Haunter of the Dark EP out now – Bandcamp exclusive!

BURNING SHADOWS, formed in 2000, celebrates its 20th anniversary with the release of The Haunter of the Dark EP as a pay-what-you-wish download on Bandcamp! Previously spread across different releases, here we present the full “The Haunter of the Dark” trilogy in one place, including “(The Shambler) from the Stars,” appearing on Truth in Legend as “From the Stars,” a re-recorded version of “The Haunter of the Dark,” and a re-mix of the Beneath the Ruins recording of “The Shambler from the Stars.” These songs are based on the trilogy of stories by HP Lovecraft and Robert Bloch.

We are also offering a limited edition The Haunter of the Dark EP on Sony MiniDisc, the most popular portable digital music format of the year 2000. Yes, seriously! The MiniDisc version includes 3 bonus tracks, including a live recording of “From the Stars” from 2019 in Nuremberg, Germany.

TRUTH IN LEGEND Fundraiser!

Help us fund the mixing, mastering, artwork, and manufacturing of our third full-length album, entitled Truth in Legend by visiting our IndieGoGo campaign here.

Truth in Legend will be BURNING SHADOWS’s third full length album, following the 2012 concept album, Gather, Darkness!, which was based on Fritz Leiber’s classic dystopian novel. We are intent on delivering Truth in Legend to our fans with the stellar production they deserve. Your contribution will ensure the album is as good as it can be from production to artwork to bonus content.

Here is what we have planned and still need to pay for to get this album released:

  • Mixing by Kyle Paradis, who mixed Gather, Darkness!
  • Mastering, hopefully by Bill Wolf, who mastered Gather, Darkness!
  • Artwork by JP Fournier, who did the artwork for Gather, Darkness!, and has worked with AVANTASIA, IMMORTAL, and many more amazing bands.
  • Manufacturing the CD release, including a full color, 16 page booklet.
  • Rights to release a cover to be included on the CD version.

Everyone who contributes to the campaign (minimum of $10) will receive Truth in Legend. We have many additional perks available which include a lot of exclusive bonus content, both digital and physical.

Chief among the perks is a bonus EP only available to our campaign contributors. When we created The Last One of Fall EP in 2013, the recording session involved 18 tracks, including many BURNING SHADOWS tracks as well as covers of ICED EARTH, HAMMERFALL, MANOWAR, and BLIND GUARDIAN songs. Two levels of the exclusive EP are available. The standard version of the exlusive EP is comprised of BURNING SHADOWS songs, including some Into the Primordial-era tracks now with Tom’s vocals, and some early versions of tracks from Truth in Legend. The deluxe version of the EP will include all the covers.

Any leftover funds will go towards creating Truth in Legend-related merchandise, promoting the album, and/or reissuing our three sold out EPs, including 2002’s The Darkest Winter, 2003’s Amongst the Dying Waves, and 2010’s Oathbreaker. Naturally if we are able to rerelease these EPs, we will offer them first to our Truth in Legend campaign contributors at a deeply discounted price if not free.

The captivating lyric videos for “Breaking the Sanctuary” from our album Gather, Darkness! can be viewed below! The videos feature artwork by JP Fournier, the artist behind many well-known metal albums such as Immortal’s At the Heart of Winter and Avantasia’s Metal Opera Part II.

The lyric video is available an uncut 12 minute version which includes all 3 parts of “Breaking the Sanctuary,” or the sections “Abandonment,” “To Assent the Fall,” and “The Infamous Dawn” can be viewed individually.
