BURNING SHADOWS Confirmed for Warriors Of Metal Fest VII

BURNING SHADOWS is proud to announce we will be melting faces at the Warriors of Metal Festival VII, June 26-28, 2014 in Columbus, OH, USA!

From Warriors of Metal, Inc.:

January 17, 2014. Cincinnati, Ohio. The Warriors of Metal, Inc. non-profit organization is excited to announce the confirmation of Rockville, Maryland’s Power Metal band, BURNING SHADOWS whose awe inspiring performance at 2012’s Pathfinder Metalfest V in Atlanta, Georgia as a support band for the legendary Raven, led to the Warriors Of Metal Fest organizer Datis Alaee to comment: “I had known Burning Shadows for a while at that time since my friend Tim Regan had sent his band’s previous albums for air play on my Metal Messiah Radio show. But making our annual pilgrimage from Ohio to Georgia to support our friend Hoyt Parris with the 5th edition of his Pathfinder Promotions’ Metalfest series, Burning Shadows was a definite not-to-be-missed band for me and boy did those guys deliver!!! My neck was wrecked, my ass was kicked and my face was melted. Big kudos to Hoyt for such an awesome booking! After their performance I went over to my wife and said ‘We HAVE TO get these guys to our Fest!!!'”

Band guitarist Tim Regan states: “We are thrilled to join the lineup for Warriors of Metal Fest VII! It is a huge honor to be part of a festival that always brings together so many amazing acts. We are grateful to battle alongside so many like-minded bands, organizers and fans. Datis has been a strong supporter of ours and we very much look forward to bringing our music to new audiences looking to help us prove that true metal is alive and well. Many of our favorite bands that we’ve shared the stage with have played this festival in years past and we’re excited about what’s in store for 2014.”

The Last One to Fall EP out 11/12/13!

The Last One to Fall EP

We are proud to announce The Last One to Fall EP, out November 12, 2013, a “live in studio” EP featuring two brand new tracks, “The Last One to Fall” and “Southwind,” and two Burning Shadows classics, “New Dawn Arise” from Into the Primordial and an abridged version of “A Thousand Lies” from Gather, Darkness! The Last One to Fall EP is available in MP3 form by donation (with no minimum) only at burningshadows.com and burningshadows.bandcamp.com. Digital pre-orders ($1 or more) and the CD version include a cover of “Battle Hymn” by Manowar. Proceeds from The Last One to Fall EP will help finance our third full-length album.

After the triumph of Gather, Darkness! in 2012, it was decided that we must improve the recording hardware at The Halls of Glory in order to fully capture the power of our newest songs for the third full- length album. In January 2013, the studio was upgraded and it was time to stress test the new setup. We, of course, went all out and recorded 18 tracks “live” in the studio to push the gear to the limit. Our setup was modified for the purposes of the recording: amp simulators were used for the guitars, Tom was trapped in the vocal chamber, and bass, solos, harmonies, and additional vocals were added after the initial tracking was complete. This process took quite a while with all the goings on in the meantime: shows, festivals, a minitour, the departure of bassist Chris Dagenhart, the return of Aaron El-Zeftawy, and finally, the tracking of the third full length album. We decided to release some of the best tracks from our recording session to replace our now sold-out Oathbreaker EP.  Enjoy The Last One to Fall EP while we continue to forge our next album!

Chris Dagenhart Joins Burning Shadows!

Burning Shadows welcomes our new bassist Chris Dragonheart Dagenhart to the band! Chris has been a longtime friend of the band and has finally decided to take up arms and join us. Chris’s lightning-fast finger-style bass technique has not been used by any previous bassist in the band since 2003. As is tradition, we plan to relentlessly haze him, starting with posting this picture of him eating pizza.

While extremely well-versed in power/prog metal, his musical breadth does not end there. Chris masterminds a funeral doom project named Epistle, as well as an old-school death metal band called Ablation.

We thank Matt Ibach for his efforts alongside us onstage and raise our chalice to him. He will be continuing his work in the mighty October 31, among other projects. We hope he will join us onstage again in an Iron Maiden-style epic triple-guitar assault in the not-too-distant future.

Join us September 8th at Metal Quest at the Ottobar in Baltimore, MD to witness Chris’s first show with us and experience firsthand the destruction that he shall bring! Perhaps we will also be able to get a better picture of him there.

Gather, Darkness! is a tightly woven work that opens with a full orchestral Overture, immediately plunges into the twisted world of the Hierarchy in A Thousand Lies, then sows the seeds of rebellion in To Ruin & Divide, and ensures Sathanas’s victory in Breaking the Sanctuary. From the ominous grandeur of “Hymn to Sathanas” to the gut-wrenching, bombastic climax of “The Infamous Dawn,” Gather, Darkness! traverses a world fraught with chaos and unrest via a soundtrack of tight harmonies, haunting vocals, and a thunderous rhythm section, invoking at times feelings of fear, wonder, despair, wrath and even hope.

  • “Fantastic, epic metal with strong, deep vocals and smoking-hot riffs.” – Ancient Spirit [11/12]
  • “If audio books were more like this, “Gather, Darkness!” would be a sure fire New York Times Best Seller.” – Sorrow Eternal [8.5/10]
  • “The second album of the quartet from Maryland has it all.” -PowerMetal.de [9/10]
  • “This Maryland band offers classic heavy metal, echoing the giants of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Blind Guardian, and develop it with aplomb.” -Danger Dog [4.5/5]

Gather, Darkness! features artwork by JP Fournier, creator of such iconic metal album covers as Immortal’s At the Heart of Winter, Avantasia’s Metal Opera Part II, and DragonForce’s Valley of the Damned. The album was mastered by the renowned Bill Wolf, known to DC-area metal fans for his work with Deceased, While Heaven Wept, Absolute Vengeance, and Brave.

Gather, Darkness! Details Revealed

BEHOLD! The next Burning Shadows album, Gather, Darkness! will be available June 2, 2012! Pre-order Gather, Darkness!  here: http://burningshadows.bandcamp.com/

Gather, Darkness! is inspired by and named after the seminal science fiction novel by legendary author Fritz Leiber. This concept album is comprised of eleven tracks, divided into four distinct, tightly woven sections that unfold the story.

The cover was designed by JP Fournier, who has created such iconic metal album covers as Avantasia’s Metal Opera Pt. II,  DragonForce’s Valley of the Damned, multiple Edguy albums, Immortal’s At the Heart of Winter, and many more.

JP also designed the entire artwork for the CD release of the album, which includes full-color art throughout and an 8-page booklet.

More information about the album can be found here.

New Logo, New Website, New Oathbreaker EP Cover

Feast thine eyes upon the new BurningShadows.com, which has been emblazoned with our new logo! The new logo was designed by JP Fournier, based on a design by Doug Miller. The Oathbreaker EP has been rereleased with a new cover (and of course the new logo). Those who previously downloaded the EP are advised to open up iTunes and crush the memory of the old cover with the power and might of the new cover using the following procedure:

  • With a fierce battle cry, right-click on the new cover, select Copy.
  • In iTunes, select all the Oathbreaker EP tracks, right-click, and select Get Info. Raise thy fist into the air.
  • In the square Artwork box, right-click and select Paste. Hit OK. Blast the Oathbreaker EP at full volume.
  • Drink an ale in victory.

Users of other programs are advised to follow their manufacturer’s instructions for crushing the memory of former album covers, but the final step listed above still applies. The new Oathbreaker cover is being disseminated across the land and to all the digital music services as we speak. We expect full domination of the new cover within a month.

We will be announcing more details about the forthcoming full-length album in the upcoming months. The Studio Diary shall continue very soon, as well. Finally, we have several shows in Maryland booked, as you can see towards the top right of the new BurningShadows.com. We expect you all to be in attendance. Until then, farewell!

Matt Ibach Returns to Burning Shadows!

Burning Shadows is proud to welcome Matt Ibach back to the stage! Matt, Burning Shadows’ bassist from 2004-2007, will once again be crushing posers onstage with Burning Shadows, this time on rhythm guitar. He will make his live re-debut with the band at the Sidebar in Baltimore on November 17, 2011. Matt is currently playing guitar in the almighty October 31 and has formerly played in NWOBHM masters Acid Queen and thrash wizards Relentless.

Since the departure of former bassist Aaron El-Zeftawy, Burning Shadows has searched for a new bassist. When the bassist search turned up nothing, the decision was made to find a live guitarist instead and move Tim Regan to play bass live. “The studio side of the band was fine, but the live show has been suffering without a bassist,” says guitarist/bassist Tim Regan. “Matt already knew a lot of the songs, has the face-melting capabilities we need onstage, and we are good friends with him, so he was the first person we asked when the decision was made.”

Burning Shadows is continuing to search for a permanent bassist.

Below, Matt Ibach performs Saxon’s “Power and the Glory” with October 31 at Defenders of the Old Fest 2:

In light of the recent tornadoes and floods across the United States, we are resurrecting the donation drive to raise money for the American Red Cross. We wanted to keep the other causes going, so we will donate 100% of the proceeds from our Wings Over College Park digital live album to the cause of your choice.
